Out and about with a roving pastor: One of the things i have always liked to do though the years is to visit all those who were once an active part of church life and now reside quietly at home or in nursing care. With eleven from each church this takes some time, but gives […]
FROM ADVENT T0 EPIPHANY
At the Elders Meeting on 3rd January we constructively reviewed all that had been organised and presented throughout the Christmas period and agreed that we could be pleased with support received in the variety of worship and social activities offered. On most occasions the church at Kingsway was pleasantly filled with Christmas Day itself attracting […]
The Pastor Writes… (January 2019)
Dear Friends, A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL! If you are looking for inspiration from these words, think again. I haven’t a clue what to write about this month. Nothing has really come into my mind that stands out and that I feel needs to be relayed to you via the magazine. But I guess […]
The Pastor Writes… (December 2018)
Dear Friends, “Truly wonderful and so sincere… “ It’s not often I start my ramblings with reference to something that would usually be covered in the ‘Looking Back’ section of the magazine, but today l must’for it needs to be highlighted. What does? The Remembrance Day Service that marked the end of the First World […]
A Peep back to Autumn
It’s perhaps only when reflecting on all that has been done we realise that we are in one way or another quite active. Space prevents the additional comments that perhaps are really needed to fully share details of some of the things we have either been involved in or provided ourselves. Externally we had the […]
The Pastor Writes… (June 2018)
Dear Friends, ”Surprised you’ve got the time to do that Vicar” l was reading an article the other day about a vicar who had written about an encounter he had recently had with a member of his congregation. At the time he was cutting the hedge in the Vicarage garden in his free time when someone […]
A Peep back to May
Out and about Summer in spring has been a boost for us all. Have we ever had such a wonderful May with day after day of unbroken sunshine and worthy temperatures to allow us to enjoy God’s creation in all its beauty. The roving reporters have been busy making notes of certain services and events and […]
The Pastor Writes… (May 2018)
Dear friends, What can l say, but thank you so much. When I thought l would have a buffet luncheon for all my friends in both churches i did it simply to say THANK YOU to you all for the love, support and encouragement you give to me in the course of my daily work. […]
A Peep back to April
The month has flown by and there have been the usual amount of services and some extras. We had already mentioned Easter in the last magazine. The following week was Low Sunday, but it was anything but. Ron Lewis led worship and as always left his hearers with much to think about. He even sang a […]
The Pastor Writes… (April 2018)

The final whistle blows and it’s into extra time! Well it’s not since schooldays has anyone seen me in football kit and playing in a team game, but it seemed a good analogy to use as I pen these thoughts. This particular game kicked off thirty six years ago when on a typically wet April […]
A Peep Back to March
A peep back to March If for nothing else March will be remembered for being so cold and there were some days when the weather conditions did impact on our planned programme. Mothering Sunday was a joyous occasion for many reasons. There was a larger than expected congregation and a lovely atmosphere as we marked […]
The Pastor Writes… March 2018
Dear Friends, A fresh coat of paint It was a daunting thought when Louise (Kingsway Manager) informed me before Christmas that the interior of the building was to be redecorated in the new year. This was to freshen it up after seven years, yes the seven years we have now been worshipping in this complex. […]
A Peep Back to the opening weeks of the New Year
With the exception of the last week in February when the ’Beast from the East’ arrived and caused some disruption with the bitter wind and snowfall, the weather has not interfered with anything planned. Numbers at worship have levelled out somewhat as some have been unable to be with us due to illness. For some this […]
The Pastor Writes… January and February 2018
Dear Friends, HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE! The cover illustration depicts my favourite N.T. story. You can read it in Mark Chapter 2. I like it because it demonstrates the faith the friends of the paralysed man had in wanting to get their friend to Jesus for healing. They believed that encounter would mean new […]
A Peep Back to November and Advent
The opening day of November was the monthly MINIBUS trip to Bury Market, always a very popular trip. There were several other outings throughout the weeks that were to follow culminating in a further trip to that world famous market just a few days before Christmas. On REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY we had a full house when we […]
The Pastor Writes… (November & December 2017)
Dear friends, When earlier this year I received notification that we were due to write a further Synod Consultation Report I simply thought it was another task we could do without. However, we got down to it at elders’ meetings and came up with several pages about what we are up to in our day […]
A Peep Back to Early Autumn

There are many services and events that could be commented on. Previous requests for folk to send in a write-up about things enjoyed sadly seemed to fall on deaf ears, thus it falls to me to give a brief resume about some of the highlights of the past few weeks. Well let’s start with Harvest […]
Remembering – 70 Years On
The year is 1947 and the Blackburn Ragged School produced its annual report of the year’s work and activities. I was demobbed from the Royal Navy in that year and took an active part in the activities of the School, not least in the Youth Club, Sea Scouts, Orchestra, and occasionally helping to lead services […]
Ruthie’s 90th and St. George’s Day Celebrations
On 23rd April 2017, we had a special service at Kingsway to celebrate St. George’s day. It was also time to celebrate the 90th birthday of one of the members of the congregation. Afterwards, the whole congregation enjoyed a lamb hotpot supper together. Here are some photographs from the occasion:
New Members
In an act of worship at Kingsway on Easter Sunday, 16th April 2017, we welcomed 14 people into church membership.

The Elders agreed at a recent meeting that we would become partners in this venture with the residents (and any others interested). In the first instance we will call a meeting and then plan out what can be done to brighten the outside areas with a number of raised wooden beds which can be ‘adopted’ […]
